The Countdown to Portsmouth Comic Con

In two weeks, on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June 2023, Portsmouth Comic Con is coming to Portsmouth Guildhall.

The line-up, speakers, events and attractions seem to be getting bigger each year. While keeping local communities and family accessibility at the heart of the event; which will include: amazing comic artists, celebrity guests, panels, workshops, themed experiences and an incredible range of comic merchandise. Exciting stuff.

Portsmouth Comic Con continues to deliver an amazing array of international and homegrown comic artists. Over the weekend some artists will be featuring in panels, roundtables and drop-in sessions. The panels will cover varied topics from the world of comics including Getting Started as a Creator, Humour in Comics, The Role of the Editor, Star Wars and an exclusive Doctor Who panel featuring the celebrity guests (on Sunday).

If you like immersive sci-fi adventures, there’s plenty in store. Including the immersive Jurassic Park and Star Wars Experiences, which will provide some amazing photo opportunities.

Cosplay is a big part of these events, and seeing the efforts put into so many costumes is truly amazing. The Dream Team Portsmouth are this year’s cosplay partners and will hosting the inclusive cosplay competitions across the weekend. Definitely make time to see the costumes and characters created.

There will also be opportunities to discover and support local Portsmouth exhibitions and communities. Handle genuine artefacts from the world’s largest ever underwater excavation, and try your hand at Tudor games as part of the 40th anniversary of the raising of Mary Rose. Visit the futuristic world of AR, VR and XR with University of Portsmouth. There will once again be the awesome DICE Portsmouth Team, with their board games and the Game Over Team, with their retro gaming consoles.

After last years event one of the things I am really looking forward to is Speakers’ Corner and hearing the different experiences and insights from guest speakers. I will definitely be checking the programme and dropping in on a couple of sessions.

In previous years the event has been a sell-out. So if you are interested its best to get a ticket while you can.

Please note: This post does include sponsored content; I have been provided a media pass for the event. However, Portsmouth Comic Con did not ask to and have not seen this post before it is published, nor have they instructed me on what to say. The views, experiences, thoughts and insights expressed in this post are my own.

Additionally, the photos shown here are my own from last years event.
